Comment: Church Saint Dimitrij in the center of the city. During the bombardment of the city, part of the population of Bitola, sought refuge in God and hid in his temples. Crowded in large numbers and hidden in the lower parts of these objects, this had devastating effects in some cases, mainly due to the use of gas bombs. In one such event, in August 1917 approximate 190 people were suffocated in the basement of the Metropolitan residence.
