The church "St. Archangel Michael" in Skopje was built in 1927 on the foundations of an older church. During that period, many places in Macedonia had military cemeteries from the First World War, which were later organized by the government into common cemeteries and ossuaries. This happened with the remains of the cemetery near the church, that had been transferred to the temple's basement.
Characteristic of the church
St. Archangel Michael is the marble iconostasis, which was set up when the church was built. These kinds of iconostasis are very expensive and difficult to make and are rarely found in Macedonian churches.
Near the church is the
British military WW1 cemetery, also from the First World War.
